Elephant and Castle Removal Company is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, customers, and members of the public. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risk across our removals operations, including packing, loading, transportation, and delivery services in and around Elephant and Castle and neighbouring areas.

Policy Statement and Objectives

Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, and damage to property by identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing effective control measures. Senior management accepts overall responsibility for health and safety performance and will provide the resources, information, instruction, and supervision necessary to meet legal requirements and industry best practice.

All employees must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions, and cooperate fully with the company in implementing this policy.

Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work

Prior to removal work, appropriate risk assessments will be carried out to identify hazards such as manual handling issues, access difficulties, traffic and parking conditions, and risks from stairs, lifts, or restricted spaces. The outcome of each assessment will be used to implement safe systems of work for that specific job.

Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards

Our vehicles are maintained in a roadworthy condition and are regularly inspected and serviced. Pre-use checks will be carried out by drivers before leaving the depot or starting a new job to confirm that lights, brakes, tyres, and load restraints are in good working order.

Drivers must hold the appropriate licence, follow road traffic laws, and drive responsibly at all times. Loads will be packed and secured properly to prevent movement, taking into account the weight and distribution of furniture, boxes, and equipment. Parking and unloading will be planned to minimise risk to staff, customers, and other road users.

Use of Equipment and Workwear

Only trained and authorised employees may use company equipment, including lifting aids and any power tools. Equipment must be inspected regularly and removed from service if damaged or defective. Staff must immediately report any faults so that repairs or replacements can be arranged.

Where appropriate, personal protective equipment such as safety footwear and gloves will be provided and must be worn as instructed. Clothing should be suitable for physical work, avoiding loose items that may catch on furniture, doors, or vehicles.

Household and Office Premises Safety

Our teams work in a variety of domestic and commercial premises in Elephant and Castle and surrounding districts. On arrival, staff will assess the layout, access points, staircases, lifts, and any potential hazards such as slippery floors, low ceilings, or narrow corridors.
